Archimedean Mosaic

Two versions of the Archimedean Mosaic sample were made, one in tones of grey quilted maple, the second in tones of English burr walnut with a pattern that interlocks across a design influenced by a historic Islamic pattern known as Girih.

These elaborate interlacing patterns are formed of five standardized shapes that are common across Persian Islamic architecture and decorative woodwork.

The pattern is enhanced with white mother-of-pearl dots and arrayed elliptical furrows that reveal layers of tonal dyed veneers that add depth to the design.
