SUSTAINABLE CRAFTSMANSHIP:
SILVERLINING FURNITURE'S COMMITMENT TO RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION
At Silverlining Furniture, our commitment to the environment and sustainable practices is evident through our dedication to responsible consumption, waste reduction, and innovative sourcing. We firmly believe that being environmentally better starts with purchasing responsibly and minimizing waste. This means only buying what we need, reducing packaging, and prioritizing reuse and recycling to keep materials out of landfills.
Our bespoke atelier model underscores our commitment to local craftsmanship, preserving heritage, and producing unique, made-to-order pieces. By avoiding mass production, we ensure each piece is designed to last, supported by our maintenance and repair services, which have been serving clients for over 30 years.
Our sustainability efforts are measurable and benchmarked against the six PRIME principles:
1. Being Environmentally Better: Purchasing responsibly and reducing waste.
2. Embracing Sustainable Innovation: Utilizing technology and science to mitigate environmental impact.
3. Spreading the Word: Promoting collective success among PRIME members.
4. Delivering Impact: Taking meaningful actions and owning our results.
5. Making a Difference: Leveraging our organization as a force for good.
6. Being Accountable: Committing to actions and following through with integrity.
As a family-run business & workshop, we support local production and craftsmanship, valuing the excellence of traditional techniques. Our collaboration with the Welsh Bangor University's Bio-Composites Centre exemplifies our forward-thinking approach, working towards fully sustainable methods for wood and plant fibre treatment.
In May 2026 we’ll have been 'We are PRIME' members for 4 years.
Some of the achievements we’re most proud of in this last year, 2025 are…
1. Installed electric vehicle points at our workshop to support our staff and suppliers wanting to commute in electric cars.
2. Launched an ingredient list for our latest sample collection to help the designers we work with make educated choices about the materials and processes to use in the furniture they make with us.
3. We now annually commit to 3 blogs and 12 social media posts that support our PRIME principles, to spread the word.
4. We have a charity committee to help manage our charity work to make best use of everyone’s contribution.
5. We continue to offer work experiences throughout our departments and workshop tours to schools and cabinet making courses.
The things we’re specifically working towards and focusing on this year 2026 are…
1. Working with our energy suppliers to embed a new carbon footprint software that will allow us to monitor and set targets for our waste flow and carbon footprint.
2. Sharing our internal end-of-project reports with the designers we work with, to highlight improvements we can make next time we work together.
3. Our Blogs and social media output focusing on our Prime principles won’t increase but we aim to increase it’s reach by 50% next year.
4. Creating a 3-year plan to continue to support the next generation of craft in the UK. In the last 3 years we have worked with and sponsored Quest, Heritage Craft and Furniture Makers Guild.
5. Increasing our engagement with local schools and Universities to offer materials and experiences to the next generation of designers and makers.
At Silverlining Furniture, sustainability is at the heart of creating timeless furniture that not only enriches homes but also ensures a healthier planet for future generations.
