The sample is inspired by the beautiful leaves of the ancient Bodhi or Asiatic fig tree, prized by Buddhists as sacred.
A mixture of nature and science is used to remove the green part of the leaf to reveal the skeleton. The leaves are then dyed in batches to obtain darker and darker shades of blue.
The layering technique of translucent leaves makes the colour change from blue to turquoise by revealing more and more of the background colour, in this case, cream English sycamore.
