The pure ‘selenite’ form of gypsum as named by the ancient Greeks in allusion to its pearly, moonlight lustre has been captured here along with iron dyed coopered European oak as a faceted, incremental water droplet referencing its high mineralised water content.
Gypsum has been used as a building material in various guises for over 5,000 years. Discovered as a component in the Egyptian pyramids and many other iconic constructions throughout history.
