A glacial surface – made from fractal shapes of oxidised rippled English sycamore embellished with micro-etched white-resin lines – overhangs an undercut ice shelf of champagne-gold-leaf and aluminium urushi lacquer, separated by a gold-plated layer.
Urushi, an ancient Korean craft, uses the sap from the urushi lacquer tree mixed with natural pigments and metal-oxide powders to create a hardwearing decorative lacquer.
Materials: English rippled sycamore, white resin, gold-plate and urushi lacquer.
