Representing erosion in parallel strata of sedimentary rocks, carved layers of palm wood – which fade gradually from natural black to oxidised white – are inlaid with contrasting glinting polished nickel.
The natural high-sheen finish of the palm wood (which is classified botanically as a grass, and has a high-resin content) is achieved by burnishing it with heat generated through hand-applied friction.
Materials: Palm wood and nickel.
