Butterfly Kaleidoscope
An evolution of our laser etching process, we begin by burning intricate patterns into an end-grain oak background and working metallised resin into the etched details. In the foreground, custom-coloured marquetry butterflies are carefully inlaid, their placement and contrast suggesting a sense of movement within the artwork.
This process is ideal for creating decorative centres in tabletops or unique surface embellishments. The concept shown here is inspired by the delicate flight of butterflies, but the techniques themselves are highly versatile.
Materials: French Oak Oysters, metallised resin, Paua shell and custom colour dyed veneers.
Finish: Open grain lacquer.
