Illusion Marquetry

'Illusion Marquetry' explores the art of illusion through sand shading of wood. Sand shading was first used on 18th century French furniture to create trompe l'oeil decorative inlays such as shells or flowers.

Here Silverlining has used the technique of shading to 'trick the eye' into thinking that the tessellated marquetry panel is 3 dimensional. The first time we used it was on a dining cabinet.
