Optical Shift (Light)
A geometric surface of paper-based composite is formed from repeated 45-degree profiles, designed to manipulate light and shadow as the viewer moves around it. Changes in direction create an evolving grid of light and dark, allowing the appearance of the surface to continually shift with perspective.
Blue and white elements are arranged to introduce a second transition through colour. From one viewpoint blue becomes dominant, while from another the surface appears increasingly white, suggesting how a future piece could transform in colour simply through movement around it.
The study combines this optical exploration with a considered use of material, pairing Paper Factor with waste off-cuts of multicoloured stacked leather. These contrasting fragments interrupt the ordered grid while giving otherwise discarded material a new purpose within the surface.
