The Slice Desk explores the power of reduction through singular material and form. Designed for the Layers in Time collection, the desk features a cantilevered structure where the work surface extends from a sculptural base in clean, geometric lines.

Carved from laminated English oak, the piece is joined with complex hand-cut box joints—a traditional technique pushed beyond convention, with each joint uniquely shaped to follow the fluid, organic edges rather than straight lines. The engineering challenge was to create visual lightness while maintaining structural integrity. At its thinnest points, the solid oak is shaped down to just 8mm.

The deep blue finish is achieved using oak gall ink, a pigment rooted in Roman and medieval traditions that reacts with the timber's natural tannins. Liming wax infused with crushed mica accentuates the contrasting grain patterns, while a final application of natural oil and wax seals the surface with a breathable, tactile finish.
